Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL) and UL of Canada (ULC) have issued two new safety standards as joint US and Canadian national standards related to LED Light Engines.

UL 8753 / ULC-S8753 covers Field-Replaceable LED Light Engines. It specifies the requirements applicable to field replaceable light-emitting diode (LED) light engines rated up to 347 volts (nominal) and provided with integral lamp bases of other than the screw, bayonet, or pin type configurations typically found on incandescent or fluorescent light sources.

UL 8754 / ULC-S8754 covers Holders, Bases, and Connectors for LED Light Engines and Arrays. It specifies the requirements applicable to holders, bases and connectors intended for solid-state (LED) light engines and arrays for installation in lighting equipment, provided that they employ a configuration not typically found on incandescent or fluorescent light sources.

These safety standards cover configurations for replaceable LED light engines (LLEs) that are different from the screw, bayonet, or pin-type formats typically found on incandescent or fluorescent light sources.
